Brooks Engages College Presidents in Growing Regional Economy

Recognizing the vital role of higher education in the regional economy, last December, Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks convened the County's first ever College Presidents Summit.

"More than ever, our colleges and universities need to be involved in
defining the vision and priorities for our region as we move forward. We need to continue and expand our collaborative efforts to build a
stronger bridge between higher education, business and government for the future," said Brooks.

"With a $4 billion impact on the area economy, and the fact that the
University of Rochester is now our largest employer, higher education is certainly a core industry in our community," Brooks added. "Colleges are no longer just institutions of learning, but incubators for business and job growth."

Following the Summit, the partners unveiled their first collaboration,
the launch of www.Biz2Edu.com. The website connects businesses, site selectors, economic development specialists, and others with the multitude of resources available at the region's academic institutions.

The County Executive's Summit was a starting point for further
collaboration. Brooks also met with the regional consortium of Rochester Area Colleges (RAC), which is currently working on additional action items to pursue.

"There is no question that the leadership of our college presidents will be a pivotal part of our efforts to create a sustainable roadmap for the future," Brooks concluded.
