proclamations for Entrepreneurship Week will be presented on Genesee County Proclamation WHEREAS, entrepreneurs have been the source of economic innovation throughout the history of the Nation, and the entire society has been improved because of the new ways of doing things that have been brought about by people who market their ideas; WHEREAS, entrepreneurs are engaged citizens who work to improve their local communities, providing better opportunities for businesses to operate and a better overall environment for the human resources they need to advance their innovative ideas; WHEREAS, more than 70 percent of young people envision starting a business or doing something entrepreneurial as adults, and entrepreneurial awareness will assist them in the future regardless of whether they run their own business or work in a business owned by others; WHEREAS, the high interest of young people in becoming entrepreneurs and the critical role entrepreneurs have played in advancing the national economy make it vital to encourage young people from all academic backgrounds and all walks of life to explore their entrepreneurial potential and see if they have it in them to ‘make a job'; and, WHEREAS , through local efforts in our own Genesee County High Schools students are encouraged to develop their own virtual companies and a business plan to support them. These programs allow f or students to learn how to operate a business including sales, marketing, taxes and payroll giving them opportunities to become local entrepreneurs themselves. Now, therefore, Be it RESOLVED , T he Genesee County Legislature does hereby proclaim the week of February 24 – March 3, 2007, as Entrepreneurship Week in Genesee County and do call upon all citizens, companies and organizations to join with me in celebrating our great entrepreneurial spirit by encouraging our youth to begin a journey to explore their big idea – and take it on! WHEREAS, According to the Department of Labor, most of the new jobs created throughout the United States in the past decade have come from the creative efforts of entrepreneurs, which have been expanding and advancing technology and fueling the recent growth in the economy; WHEREAS, Entrepreneurs have been the source of economic innovation throughout the history of the Nation, and the entire society has been improved because of the new ways of doing things that have been brought about by people who market their ideas; WHEREAS, Entrepreneurs are engaged citizens who work to improve their local communities, providing better opportunities for businesses to operate and a better overall environment for the human resources they need to advance their innovative ideas; WHEREAS , Genesee Community College is an invaluable asset to students looking to gain a college degree to create their own job after graduation or for individuals desiring to earn an Entrepreneurship Certificate. These two paths provide critical information leading to the improved success for individuals who want to be their own boss, see opportunity in unfilled needs/wants of potential customers, see financial rewards outweighing risks, and most importantly have a passion for what they really want to do in life; WHEREAS, The college's Business and Employee Skills Training Center offers noncredit support and assistance for community businesses, employees and entrepreneurs by providing a variety of small business workshops that assist small business in acquiring information for continued growth and success. Now, therefore, Be it RESOLVED, T he Genesee County Legislature does hereby proclaim the week of February 24 – March 3, 2007, as Entrepreneurship Week at Genesee Community College in Genesee County and do call upon all citizens, companies and organizations to join with me in celebrating our great entrepreneurial spirit by assisting aspiring or current business owners to begin a journey to explore their big idea – and take it on!
