Educators, explore a growing industry in the Finger Lakes Region: Advanced Manufacturing, Food and Agriculture, Information Technology, Life Sciences, and Optics.

Monday, August 4 - Thursday, August 7, 2008
Increase your knowledge of careers, employer expectations, trends, and skill and education requirements and bring industry, workplace, and career information to your district, building, classroom and future workers.

Eligible educators: probationary or tenured teachers and education professionals including school-to career coordinators, career center directors, or school counselors and teachers of math, science, technology, business, or vocational education working primarily with high school juniors and seniors and / or
youth 16 years of age or older from Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Orleans, Ontario, Seneca, Wyoming, Wayne, or Yates counties. Selections will be based on the application, support letter, and district affiliation.

During this professional learning experience, educators will...

  • Visit employer sites within one specific industry with a team of colleauges on Monday, August 4 and Tuesday, August 5, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Convene for “work sessions” on Wednesday, August 6 and Thursday, August 7, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Monroe #1 BOCES Professional Development Center, 15 Linden Park, Rochester.
  • Work with your team to prepare an interactive PowerPoint presentation or a Webquest.
  • Create a personalized plan for implementation for the upcoming school year.
  • Earn 30 professional development hours and receive a stipend of $320 for four days of participation.

Program Timetable
Friday, May 30, 2008 – Application packet due
Friday, June 20, 2008 – Selection letters mailed
Friday, July 18, 2008 – Team assignments determined and mailed to participants
